2020 4-H PEI Exhibition Specialist

Contract Position

Estimated: May 13, 2020 – September 27, 2020 (20 weeks)

Hours will vary each week – busiest in July & August

Total Estimated Hours of Contract 400 hours

Total Contract Value $7,500

4-H PEI is looking to hire an outgoing, organized person to assist with Fairs & Exhibitions across PEI this summer. 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Will look after all elements of the Exhibition events for 4-H PEI (Alberton, Evangeline, Crapaud, Old Home Week, Dundas & Eastern Kings)

  • Will be the main liaison with all Agriculture Exhibitions staff & volunteers and manage all    4-H activities at each event

  • Will work with District and Club representatives to ensure required volunteers are in place

  • Work Closely with Office Admin on Registration & Clerking sheets and receive assistance from Summer Student & Regional Specialists where needed

  • Develop new resources and marketing tools to encourage more people to explore opportunities in 4-H

  • Attend other community festivals with display opportunities where possible

  • Recruit & Manage the Sponsorship Opportunities for all fairs.

  • Manage Non-Livestock Circuit including transportation of projects, set up, judging and takedown.

  • Will keep solid records and develop a binder for future use

  • Submit a final report of summer activities

 

Qualities and Skills:

  • Experience in managing special events, coordinating volunteers,

  • Excellent written and oral English. French would be an asset.

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

  • Demonstrated interest and knowledge of the 4-H program and positive youth development.

  • A high degree of efficiency and attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Proficiency and experience with Microsoft software and social media platforms.

  • Self-directed, with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

  • Strong analytical, organizational and time-management skills.

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with travel across the province, including evenings and weekends.

4-H PEI SUMMER ASSISTANT

SUMMER is one of the busiest times in the 4-H year!


Each year (pending funding) the Provincial Council hires a post-secondary summer student to work FULL-TIME assisting the provincial staff team from mid-May to the end of August  (estimated 16 weeks) 

 

The Summer Assistant will be responsible for helping to ensure the success of: 

  • Club and District Achievement Days (June & July)

  • Junior Camp (June)

  • Fairs and Exhibitions Island-wide (July & August)

 

4-H Summer Assistant will also work with 4-H staff on projects such as:

  • Club Reorganization preparation

  • Marketing & Promotion of the 4-H Program

  • Communications

 

Qualifications 

  • Outgoing, enthusiastic and professional demeanor

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Experience working with youth

  • Ability to work and problem-solve independently and as a team member

  • Excellent organization and time management skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Strong computer skills and experience with word processing and database software

  • Comfortable working in an office setting and at public events

  • Familiarity with the 4-H program

  • Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or First Aid Training is an asset

  • Spoken and written French is an asset.


Applicants Must:

  • Have completed at least a year of post-secondary education, or equivalent, and be planning to attend a post-secondary institute in Canada in September 2019

  • Have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle

  • Be prepared to work flexible hours and overtime, including evenings and weekends

  •  Be able to complete tasks involving physical labour, which might occasionally involve heavy lifting

  • Successfully pass a Police Record Search (including Vulnerable Sector Screening)
